    -Q#1. Assuming you have proper tuning, what exactly would cause your engine's life to be shortend if you are boosting?

    -Q#2. Let's say you are running 9psi on a GSR with a JRSC (good for about 235 WHP?) and 9psi with an intercooled revhard turbo (close to 300WHP) Since they are both running the same amounts of boost are they going to have the same engine stress or does the extra HP from the REV Hard create more stress?

    When you increase the HP on a Honda motor the life of the bearings(main and rod), oil pump, and piston rings will be reduced. On a perfectly tuned motor, without detonation or ping, higher than stock HP will still reduce the life of the motor. Most of the increased HP puts more vibrational stress inside the motor along with more heat. The most important part of a long lived motor is the maintenence and how much you beat on it. What I mean by beating it, is revving the crap out of it and driving it like you stole it. Just make sure you tune your motor on a dyno with wideband 02 sensor and that you take care of it.

    Hey this is a cool topic - and it's actually kinda funny.. One of the (stupid) reasons that I used to justify the extreme ($3k+) price of the JRSC was that I told myself that my engine would live _longer_ because I wouldn't need to rev it as high (6-8k) to make decent power and fly onto the highway... In retrospect this may be misguided because I'll probably still hammer it, I'll just go faster smile

    But it would be interesting to have some hard physical/mathematical or even better empirical evidence showing bearing wear or whatever as a function of RPM, boost, and HP..

    After owning 3, <u>unmodified</u> Honda cars that all made it to the 200K mile club; I'm convinced that Honda's are made to be revved high for many miles, with proper maintenance.
